I keep coming back to Chelsea + Caleb’s wedding photos so I figured it was time to share them here. Every single detail was carefully thought out and planned by their amazing team from Uncommon Camellia. From the lush flowers, bursting with color by Doris Ione to the flavorful, local fare at Mosquito Supper Club, and the lively, classic tunes of the Second Line Brass Band. Nothing was missed and it was a beautiful celebration.
It is the BEST feeling when a couple says to you “We trust you completely”, and then they truly let go and allow you to work your best for them. I met Chelsea + Caleb during their engagement session, which you can see here. They were such a warm and cheerful couple and I wanted that to translate in their wedding photos. My goal was to infuse their images with the same warmth and intimacy that their guests experienced throughout the ceremony, dinner, and second line celebration. The best way to do this was to move through the day as a guest would. I stayed very close, talked with everyone on and off to help them relax around the camera, and laughed (maybe even cried a little) during their toasts and speeches.
One of the most important parts of my job, to capture a moment authentically, is to get out of the way. And that the best way to do this, is to fit right in and dissolve the idea of the photographer in the minds of those in the room. When you become a guest and a friend, you are no longer the photographer truly…and people breathe and laugh and dance differently for your camera.
